Beauty Picks

Hi there! So this is the first time I have done a "beauty" post and to tell you the truth, I'm pretty nervous to do so. I don't know why but maybe because it's a little out of my comfort zone. I don't know, but let me start off by saying, I don't feel like I am makeup or beauty expert but I know what works for me and brands that I like to use, mostly because they never fail me. So today, I'm sharing brands I love and I hope you try them and fall in love with them as well!

First, I always start with a clean face. It seems like a really brainless step, but a clean face makes a big difference in the application of your foundation. (Funny) My favorite is "Simple Facial Wipes". Simple's brand is all about being good to your skin. They are free of harsh chemicals and artificial perfumes or dyes. Which I love because my skin is pretty sensitive. I also love the convenience of the wipe, it's great for those mornings you are rushing out the door.

When it comes to lip color, I trust no one but Revlon. I love their Lip Butter series because the lipstick goes on super smooth, it feels soft on your lips and lasts a good while. My favorite color is Cotton Candy. It's a soft pink that's perfect for spring. I am also loving Revlon's Super Lustrous Lip Gloss. They have a lot of fun colors, my favorite is Fuchsia Finery, and they smell yummy! And of course the Super Lustrous Lipsticks are a go to. I'm really liking the color Pink Pearl. (wearing Fuchsia Finery)

My favorite blush is True Match by L'Oreal in the color Tender Rose. I am constantly going back to L'Oreal's true match colors because I think they are the best! They last a long time and really do match skin to make your coloring look natural. I like using True Match's "Cocoa" for contouring.

My favorite foundation, a recent find, is Maybelline's Liquid Mousse Airbrush Finish. I love how it goes on super smoothly and makes my skin look flawless. I also really like how it makes my skin look Dewey or creamy.

And lastly, my favorite nail colors for spring and summer are Fun on the Gondola, Big Spender and Geranium (in order) all by Essie. I like Essie for a couple reasons. First, they always have fun and trendy colors. Second, I find that it glides on nails easily and lasts for a long time.

My handsome photographer. I LOVE HIM!

Comfy Spring Style

Blouse: French Connection via Marshall's (similar), Pants: Loft, Shoes Steve Madden via Marshall's (similar) Earrings: Anna and Ava via Dillard's

I have been drawn to comfortable style recently. Anything loose, soft and comfy has had my name all over it. Lucky for me, comfy style is totally on trend right now. These lace, lounge pants form Loft are so perfect. They have this extremely soft fabric as the lining and are light weight, perfect for humid, Houston summers.

Spring Shoes

1 2 3 4 5 6

If you are anything like me you love, love, LA-HUV shoes! My husband is constantly telling me I have too many. Our closet is full of pumps, booties, and flats. Poor guy has a small corner dedicated to his shoes,  however I am certain that too will become woman territory. So, in a way he is right I have a lot of shoes, but too many? Never!
Naturally, with the spring season in full swing, I had to find some great shoes. These are shoes that I recommend for the Spring.
I love the stamped, or punched out, leather look. It was really big last Spring and it continues on this season. For me stripes are always a go to and on these casual yet interesting flats, I just don't think you could go wrong. Pastels are a huge trend this Spring, and a really fun/easy way to wear it is on your shoes. Lastly I love the interesting, bulky leather straps on shoes this season. It's a fresh, modern take on the casual shoe strap.

New Design, New Name!

Can you say Vampire much!? I'm so white!!!

Top: Dillards via Gibson & Latimer, Pants: Loft ,Shoes: Marshalls via Steve Madden (simular), Earrings and Necklace: Target
Snake Braid tutorial : Barefoot Blonde Thanks Amber, for the awesome tutorial! I will have to do this awesome do again!

I've been away for a while, I know. And although there are a lot of reasons for being gone, the biggest is due to a new blog design and new name. I am so stinking excited to show this awesome, amazing design done my Lindsey at Designer Blogs.com. I can't tell you how long it took me (and my husband) to come up with a new name. We have been discussing a new name since the beginning of the year but it feels like forever! Finally we came up with Sweet Sunlight Style. We both felt like it best described, not only me personally, but our lives as well as the things I find interest in and thoughts I would like to convey. So here we go, here is my thought (as well as my husbands) process behind the name Sweet Sunlight Style.

Sweet: I've always been attracted to the sweet, soft, romantic style. I think it's safe to say that those adjectives would describe how I dress about 97% of the time.
We also thought that sweet described life. Sometimes it seems so mundane but how sweet life truly is.
And lastly, sweet, because I LOVE sweets. It's almost pathetic how much my life revolves around sweets! ( I must be a girl!)

Sunlight: This one is pretty cut and dry. We recently bought  our first home. It was a huge life step, and something we had looked forward to for a while. The street name our home is on is Sunlight Hill. What a beautiful name. We both thought that no matter where we move Sunlight Hill will always mean something special to us. So Sunlight made it's way into my blog name.

Style: It's seems pretty simple. I mean obviously this is a personal style blog, but style (or fashion) has been a huge part of my life. Since I can remember, I would ingulf my life in style and fashion magazines. I have loved it for so long, it's truly a passion of mine. I find fashion intriguing and fascinating. An art form to say the least. So, yes "style" for the blatantly obvious reason, but also because style, is in essence, who I am. (does that sound vain?)

Weekend Review

We had a fantastic weekend. I would say the very best weekend known to man kind! (Ok maybe that was over kill, but still it was great!) First and foremost it was my wonderful, fabulous, extremely handsome husband's birthday.
You give this man anything to do with cars or performance vehicles and he is like a kid in a candy store. Watching Top Gear makes him happy.

Yes some of the cake is missing. He couldn't wait to try it,

He turned 28 this year! I can't believe that I have known him for 6 years, 4 of which we have spent as husband and wife. I love every minute of it.
I believe in a birthday week, which means you get to do whatever you want through the week of your birthday. You get all your favorite meals and no chores. He was thrilled. It also means ice cream whenever you want.

We have been making drapes for our living room. And when I say we, I mean we. Daniel helped a lot with all the math work and cutting. He even sewed one of the curtain panels.

We've also been all about gardening. My husband has such a green thumb, which I am convinced is hereditary. He has been growing Gladiolas and I can't wait till they reach their full height and bloom.

On Thursday night we got to visit the temple and enjoy in partaking the blessings of eternal marriage. It was such a wonderful evening. I love visiting the temple.

Then for the Hubs birthday we went to Super Cross and even though I wasn't super excited about it, I ended up enjoying every minute.

Then to finish off the weekend we watched General Conference, which is a Semi-Annual meeting for the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, although everyone is invited to watch/listen to and hear the great and inspired messages from God.
As we listened we were reminded of the immense love God has for all of us. And although every talk hit a special part in my heart, I especially loved President Dieter F. Utchdorf's message. I was reminded that blessings don't just come once in a while or only after asking for something, blessings come everyday and through every breath I breath. Although the blessing I desire most hasn't come yet, I am blessed. It truly brings tears to my eyes when I think about how loved and blessed I am. I love my God and am so grateful for all he bestows upon me. I'm so thankful for my sweet husband and the love we share together. We are so blessed.

I hope you all remember to count your blessings and realize that God does not ever leave you alone. What a great blessing it is to know that He will lift you, heal you and make you perfect as you place your faith in Him and allow Him to carry you.
Have a great week
