Wedding Outfits: MOG

Dress: Dorothy Perkins, Shirt: Zara, Skirt: StyleBop, Jewelry: Stella & Dot, Shoes: Payless

Ok, Mother of the Groom's turn! In my opinion the Mother of the Groom should look just as nice as the Mother of the Bride. After all her child is getting married as well. My objective was to create one outfit that was very tailored and sleek (left) and one that was still dressy but a little more relaxed (right). I added three different options of jewelry for each outfit. All of which play to the outfits strengths while adding character. With the coral shirt, I would roll the sleeves up to a 3/4 length, or just roll the cuff up once (quick tip: Rolling the sleeve to a 3/4 length, on any shirt, will create an optical allusion by drawing the eye to the smallest part of your waist, therefore making your waist line look smaller. You want to cut an easy 10 lbs, this will do the trick every time!) I also think that either of these outfits would work with Joslyn and the kids look 1 that I posted yesterday (that seemed to be the favorite). Once again I would love to hear your opinions again. Post them in the comments below or on Istagram. Thanks for all your support!

What to Wear.....

Outfits 1: Stripe dress: Boden, Shoes: Boden, Jewelry: Stella and Dot, Headband: Gap Kids, Ivory dress: Zara, Blue button up: Baby Gap
Outfits 2: Both dresses: Boden and Mini Boden, Shoes: Payless, Earrings: Banana Republic, Headband: Old Navy
Outfits 3: Dress and Shoes: Boden Jewelry: Stella and Dot, Coral Dress: Zara

Wooo! I can tell you one thing, putting outfits together is not as easy as it seems! And for some reason when knowing the outfit will be documented for the rest of your life, it makes it all the more stressful! My brother-in-law is getting married at the end of April and my sister-in-law and I have both been stressing out about it. (just a little) I think it's more stressful for her since she isn't only dressing herself, but her beautiful kids as well. She bought the three dresses for her and didn't know which one would work best. So I decided to try my hardest and make any of them work. She also wants to take family pictures with these outfits, so they kinda have to work perfectly. (Oh I guess I should mention that the wedding colors are a light peachy coral and blue). Although I still think that any of them would work great, I like Look 1 and 2 the best. But it would be awesome to get all of your inputs. Which one is your favorite? Let me know on the comments below or on Instagram. I hope you like these Jos! I would love to hear your opinion also!

Alone Again

Shoes, Skirt &Belt: Target Shirt: Langford Market Necklace & Earrings: Burlington Coat Factory

The fam-bam has left and it makes me so sad! I decided that I just don't like being lonely. Really I'm not. Please don't think of me as this helpless thing that sits in the corner all by herself, because that is just not me. What I mean to say is I wish I had company at all times- good company, like family or friends. People who really understand you and your sense of humor (or lack of). People who can pull pranks and know that even if feelings are hurt they won't be like that for long. The Hubs and I are so lucky to have such great family. We were really being looked out for when we came to this Earth! Only a week and a half till I'm with family again. ( I know I'm being such a baby, right!)
Ok, Ok time to grow up and be a big girl. For work we have another fashion show tonight and it's going to be a BIG one. I'm really looking forward to it. We are throwing a fashion show for the Woodlands Mall to kick off all the spring fashion and shopping in this area. Oooo just talking about it makes me happy, and a little sleepy. I think after this week I could sleep for three days straight. Also I think I could go without eating for a while! (which I would never do but I don't think it could hurt at this point.) We ate so much this week (as we always do when we are together- leave it to my mother's culture to fatten us kids right up!) so please excuse me if I'm looking a little bloated in these pictures. This coming week's workouts are going to KICK MY BUTT!
I have also noticed more than ever that I am extremely white! Man you would think that I live in Alaska or something. My brothers kept saying that The Hubs turned me into a vampire. I will be tanning this summer- maybe!
Ok now on to the outfit. This shirt is still a little bit big on me (I got it tailored recently). I really wanted to wear it with this skirt, but I think it would work better with my white pants or colored skinnies.... Ok I'll put that in my mental fashion portfolio for future reference. However I still think that a jean shirt works well with this skirt. I wanted to tie in the yellow of the skirt somehow so I paired the outfit with this big chunky necklace that has green, yellow and turquoise. And Wah-Lah! There you have it. Thanks fo reading!

A Day in Old Town Spring

Old Pavilion

Antique shops galore! Most shops had a mix of old and new, but personally I love seeing all this victorian style antiques. So pretty!

Some of the yummiest and hottest stuff you'll find.

Mom and Dad. Aren't they so cute!

 Amish Barn Woodworking.

Woo,woo! Look at these studs. (Left to right Trey, Jake, Josh)

 Love this little weirdo

 Caught off guard

This gorgeous man!

The hubs was able to take a half day off of work and we spent the day in Old Town Spring, looking through some of the coolest antique shops I've ever seen. The street is full of little country homes that house anything from victorian style spoons to an old bed from the Quing Dynasty (which was selling for $30,000!- Oh yeah let me just pull that out of my pocket real quick. NOT!)  The best part of this little town is everything is preserved in its original state in 1840 and the rail road runs right through this town. Imagine the little town in Fried Green Tomatoes and that is just what this looks like. To top it all off the weather was just perfect. We had a great day enjoying one another's company! I wish it never had to end.

A Small Hiatus

Shirt and Purse: Langford Market Belt: Target Shoes: TJ Maxx

I'm sorry I skipped a few days, but I'm back and I have SO much to tell you. My family came into town (my mom, dad, brothers: Josh and Jake, and their friend Trey), so far we've spent the weekend in San Antonio  (Sea World pictures will be up sometime later) and went kayaking on the waterway, around The Woodlands yesterday. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. We road tandem kayaks- Josh and Trey in one, Jake and I in another and Mom and Dad in the last. Trey, Josh, Jake and I were hauling butt, we look behind us and Mom and Dad are zig-zagging all over the place (apparently Mom isn't very good at steering.) To make it even funnier, Dad gave up about half way through and was just sitting in the back of the kayak (kind of like a turtle that rolled on his back and couldn't roll back over). We laughed and laughed. Finally Mom and Dad caught up and we laughed with them. It will be a great memory to revert back to in years to come.
The first picture I posted was to show you my make-up, which never turns out this pretty. I was so proud of my self. If you don't like it, thats ok, I was happy about it though. I love this color coral and turquoise. Putting them together makes me so happy. You may see me do this more this summer. You could do this with floral print pants, jeans or white pants. It's so versatile. Sorry I am cutting this short but I have to spend time with my family. Thanks for reading!

 Final Showing

Don't these girls look ravishing? I am so proud of all these models and how the night went. It was seriously the smoothest fashion show I have EVER done. Still, I'm very happy it's over. All of these models were styled by the Impressions team (Cari Benson, Stacy Harris and I). The top three pictures are outfits you could wear every day, (a little on the dressy side but if you feel like strutting your stuff, why not?) or for work. The last two would be semi-formal to full out ball gown/prom look. Doesn't the last model look like Kate Hudson in How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days? We had so much fun last night; it'll be a fashion show to remember!
My favorite part of the night was the body artist. InterFaith (the charity hosting the event) hired a body artist to draw outfits on two separate models. Which was very out there for The Woodlands, but the crowd ended up loving it.
Dress from Cache

Here is our model (Impressions model we dressed). All these poor girls had on were nude shorty, shorts and a little bra and they stood out here ALL NIGHT, for all to see! I think it's safe to say they are very comfortable with their bodies. It turned out so good don't you think?!
As a stylist and while doing a fashion show, we depend greatly on team work, organization and cooperation from all those on the team and the models. Thank you to all those that helped!

Little Acts of Kindness

Shirt: Forever 21 Skirt: TJ Maxx Necklace and Shoes: Target Purse and Ring: Langford Market

Not to toot my own horn, but I always try to be as kind to people as possible. I am in public a lot for my job and I am always rushing, rushing, rushing, but when I notice someone close behind me I am mindful to hold the door open for them. Or say a kind hello or just smile. I don't think acts of kindness have to be huge. It's usually the small ones that mean the most. For example the other day I went to the grocery store and as I was putting my items into my car an older gentleman came and stood right beside my shopping cart. It scared me at first, and I really had no idea what to do. I finally got all my groceries out of the cart as he waited their patiently (meanwhile imagine me rushing and clutching on to my purse). I looked up at him and gave a timid smile. He smiled back and said can I take your cart back for you? At that moment I realized he was on his way to take his cart back as well. I then remembered seeing him grocery shopping the same time I was. I relaxed and gave him a huge smile and allowed him to take my cart. I remember smiling for the rest of the evening. That was so simple yet so kind and what more, it reminded me to be kind as I drove home in the hectic Houston traffic. A friend of mine had the same experience happen to her just the other day. I smiled again remembering this man's little act of kindness to me. I think if I'm ever having a bad day just remembering that will bring a smile to my face. So I'm issuing a challenge today for all that are reading and to myself as well. Try to do at least one little act of kindness today, and tell me about them in the comments. Or if you notice someone else showing you (or those around you) kindness. I'm looking forward to hearing theses.
Okay on to more vain things. This skirt is the one I told you about last week that I had to go down two sizes, you remember? I love it mostly because it's flowy and makes me feel so pretty when I walk. If you want to wear a skirt like this and have bigger hips like me (not straight hips...maybe I should do a body shape segment someday), make sure the band hits you at the smallest part of your waist and that the silhouette of the skirt is a straight A-line not a full. (of course the label won't say that, I might be making up the term, but when you hold it up does it look like the material is coming straight off the band or is it more full?) Navy this season is like your neutral colors so think of it as if you were wearing black or white (tan, brown, grey ect.) So to add "color" I chose this adorable clutch/purse. I will post pictures of this bag later. It is seriously so cute. I mixed in a cobalt blue necklace and a coral ring. You will see cobalt blue and turquoise a lot this season or blues and orange/coral colors mixed together. I wanted to be more cutesy with the outfit so I topped it off with a 3/4 length, lace shirt and nude pumps. I originally had a belt on but I was not working out.
I hope you are enjoying these posts and that they help even just a little. Thank you for reading!

Fashion Show Mayhem

Outfits from White House Black Market

Outfits from Banana Republic

Here is a sneak peek to the fashion show coming up on Thursday. (oh and just in case you were wondering, fittings did not take two hours. It took us NINE hours to fit the models! But we got it done.)
The Woodlands Mall and Market Street Shopping Center are teaming up for a spring fashion show this year. Which this is kind of unheard of, two different marketing groups teaming up in an event. (Or maybe I just don't get out much?) Either way it's a big deal here in The Woodlands. I am excited to see all the stores working together to pull off an amazing fashion show. And look at how gorgeous these models are. They were so easy to fit and everything looked good on them. (It was slightly annoying.) It also helped that the stores had such great stuff in stock. WHBM's signature color is purple this season and some magenta/pink as well. They have some of the cutest things right now.
Banana Republic has some cute statement pieces, like colorful belts and amazing statement necklaces (which if you don't have a big statement necklace yet, get one! You can go over the top with it or make it casual by pairing it with a classy white dress and heels or jeans, a plain t-shirt and flats, respectively. I'll post more on the fashion show later this week so be watching!

2 Honks!

Earrings, Bangles, Belt, Cami and Shoes: Target Dress Macy's 2010(sorry)

My brilliant husband had the idea to take pictures amidst the gorgeous wildflowers. The only problem was, wildflowers grow WILD, and for the most part are only on the sides of the road. (The city won't cut the grass this time of year so the general population can enjoy these beauties.) Needless to say we took pictures in a heavily populated traffic area for all to watch! I got a lot of stares, some laughs but I also got TWO honks. Im convinced, however, that they mistook me for someone they knew and tried to get the attention of a friend. Either way for a brief moment I felt pretty after being laughed at by many more. (Leave it to the Kirtland girl inside of me to take honking as a compliment. HA!)
Ok sorry for wearing something not of this year, but I love this dress and eyelet is everywhere this spring so I know you will be able to find it if you want. I actually wore this dress when I went to the temple to marry my wonderful husband, and haven't worn it since! It's a really pretty dress on it's own but I was feeling a little country and wanted to add shape so I belted it at my smallest part. I wore the turquoise earrings again because I obsessed and to add color, and then added these cute peep toe/mary jane shoes to go with the sweetness of the dress. The wild flowers are a perfect touch for that sweet country girl feel, don't ya think?
Thank you so much for your support! You're the best!

Oh, here is just a quick laugh because I believe not everything in life is as it seems. My honey asked me to pick a flower and I couldn't do it elegantly, this was the result.

A Day Off... Kinda

Earrings: Target Necklace: Charming Charlie Shirt: Forever 21 Belt simular: Target
Skirt: Langford Market

A day off from work sounds nice, until I think about my schedule for tomorrow. The company has a fashion show coming up on Thursday (actually we have three fashion shows in the next week and a half! Uh don't remind me!), which means fittings tomorrow. We have to fit 18 models in 2 hours!!!! I seriously don't know how we are going to make this happen but where there's a will, there's a way (I hope).
Although I have the day off from work I am going to be busy doing some spring cleaning! My poor house and car are in desperate need of this. Due to all the trees and flowers in bloom there is pollen everywhere. If my car where living and able to grow it would be the prettiest flower out there, I'm sure!

But all this cleaning will be rewarded when my family gets into town. I can not wait to see them! My parents and two younger brothers are spending their spring break in this great, BIG, wonderful, state of Texas! (I'm only sad that my sister and her small family can't be here as well.) We will have the time of our lives, visiting Sea World, The Alamo and other daily trips. One thing I'm really looking forward to is the Blue Bell ice cream factory tour. I have been busting my butt to be able to taste ice cream for the first time in MONTHS!! (I love ice cream, however it's been easier than I thought it would be to give it up, but I am ready to indulge.) I might regret it after, but oh well! Spring break is going to be great!

Ok, "Let get down to the nitty gritty!" (name that movie!). This is one of my favorite outfits, just because I feel so pretty in it. It's also a good mixture of classiness and easiness. I feel like I could go somewhere a little more fancy or just wear this around town while running errands. I like wearing long necklaces with flowy shirts because it gives the shirt a little shape but still has that romantic feel about it. I tuck the front in (yes only the front) to again add shape and belt it to keep it all in place. I love mixing colors, but this time I went with a subtle approach. I added some turquoise earrings to top off the outfit, mostly because I love the burnt orange and yellow combination with turquoise. (seriously check these earrings out they are supper pretty-and a good fake if you ask me).
Thanks for your continual support!

Getting Back to My Roots

Shirt: Langford Market Shoes: Old Navy Earrings and Long Necklace: Charming Charlie

Some of you may know this about me, but if you didn't I am originally from a small town in New Mexico. It is located in the North-Western corner in between Shiprock (Navajo Reservation) and Farmington, NM. I was born and raised in this gorgeous state. Where I would spend most my time wishing I could run away and be someone/something amazing. I couldn't wait to be free, and now looking back I truly was.
I wish I could put it into words how much this little town shaped me and molded me into the person I am today. I loved everything about that place, but I think what made it so great were the people I had around me.
Family and friends have always been a huge part in my life, and I was blessed to have the best of both. You've heard the saying that it takes a village to raise a child, well I know this to be true in my life. I think in someway everyone I knew (old or young) had some input in how I have become me. It was all the little things, nothing that really sticks out, but all the love and sometimes the hate, that made me realize that life doesn't always go perfectly but it's great to know that you have good people to be there with you through it all. Which makes me think of the song by Gray Allen- Life ain't always beautiful, but it's a beautiful ride.
Ok ok enough nostalgia for one day I think. The weather here in Houston is getting warmer. And to tell you the truth I am not looking forward to the summer. Oh, dear humidity, you are not my friend. I was sweating so bad because I chose to wear jeans and boots on a 77 degree day. Oh well, it was worth it! I kinda love these little booties. They are my favorites but they hit a tiny bit higher on my ankle so I am sure to give my pant legs an extra roll up. If I didn't, my leg would look short and squat(ier). I also really love the loose blousey shirt with skinny, or straight leg pants. And this light peachy brown color goes great with my turquoise necklaces. The litte necklace was given to me as a b-day gift and my big chunky necklace I have had for years and years.
Thanks for all you that keep reading! You're the best!
